Join us Saturday, January 28, 2012 for the Safe Schools and Fair Employment Working Group Day of Action & Rally. Join us around the state to encourage the Idaho Legislature to include sexual orientation and gender identity in the Idaho Human Rights Act. We all deserve to feel safe where we work, learn and live.
Please note: These events are put on by the Safe Schools and Fair Employment Working Group
Idaho Human Rights Act
Idaho has no state or federal protections for people who are fired because of their sexualorientation or gender identity.
In this struggling economy, Idahoans face enough obstacles to finding employment and a place to live. Over the past few years we have worked to make Idaho’s non-discrimination law all-inclusive, and we will continue this work in the 2012 session.
Idaho must protect every family’s right to have a home and ensure that individuals are judged on their work performance and skills by amending the Idaho Human Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Contact your legislator and urge them to amend the Idaho Human Rights Act.
Safe Schools
Students have the right to be safe and free from harassment and fear at school. Every parents' child deserves the right to be educated in a safe and welcoming environment.
In the last half of 2010, across the country, at least twelve students between the ages of 13 and 19 committed suicide following harassment at school. A 2009 Idaho Suicide Prevention Network stated suicide is the second leading cause of death among Idaho high school students and According to the 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 14 percent of all Idaho teens have seriously considered suicide. Students have the right to be safe at school and parents have the right to know their children are being educated in a safe and welcoming environment.
Contact your legislator and urge them to strengthen Idaho's school anti-bullying laws to ensure all students are safe and free from harassment and fear at school.
